yes, I work well with honesty but not abuse....if someone was to say what you did was S..T then I dont take offense....but if they say what are you doing you useless so and so. The I would be very unhappy with that.

Yesterday i got a dose of brutal honesty from a fellow competitor during the competition (not in our heat but a rising star junior). She told me I was not extending my neck enough. It stung a bit - but she was right and I think it really helped....
but she might have beeen making a metaphorical comment!

I would have brutal honesty than nicely decorated lies.
I even told my teacher to be more critical instead of trying to be too nice.
I was criticize about my dancing and expressed that I was not satisfied.
Teacher told me that why can I be more positive?
So I answered that I am positive, but critical. Does this make negative?
I don't really think so.

the metre and rhyming needs a little work:
I would have brutal honesty than nicely decorated lies.
I told my teacher " be more critical" instead of trying to be too nice.
I was criticized about my dancing
I said I was not satisfied.
Teacher asked me that why cant I be more positive?
To which I replied
I am positive but critical.
Does this make me unwise?
I don't really think so.

[Nicely done BTM!]
DGD
Think to yourself whether you are being 'critical' or 'constructively critical'. Its the latter you have to aim for. The secret to attaining that is to always include positives with your negatives. Thus: 'I love the way you get me to move in foxtrot but perhaps we could improve on the lowering.' is constructive critical whereas: 'I don't like the foxtrot because of the way we are lowring' is just critical. In essence you said the same thing but the former indicates that you are on the right track but need some adjustment whereas the latter feels like you really don't like where you are going at all.

I think there has to be a balance. I believe that you need to talk with your teacher about what approach would be best. as we now have moved up to another level we have to hear things that perhaps aren't what we would want to hear. also it is our mney, if the techer does not fix things we are wasting our money.
So we have given our teacher permission to be stricter not nastier
.
ie. he should not be delicate about shaping as we should already be doing it and know we have to be consistent.

Our teachers have got to the point of being brutally honest and just ignoring any protestations. Love them!!
And its working really well for us.
But its important to make it clear - its not enough to be told you have to put your ego to one side and listen. And thats really where we've made big improvements (but could surely do more). Its best to enter the lesson thinking you know nothing except what your body can do. Then you are maleable for the teacher. It assumes, of course, that you respect your teachers knowledge - but if not then stop and go find yourself a teacher that you feel is your guru.
