thats funny because I do the same with my coach - today for example 'yes I know, I wasn't on ballance on my left foot and then I shaped and ... " so it goes
Although we would rather not make errors, there is a real satusfaction to figuring out what we did wrong ourselves. That in itself is an affirmation of having learned.

I think we all at times can be very hard on myself, I often come home with the whip lashes.....
I would prefer that the coach does it and not me....as if we both do it well it will take weeks for the wounds to recover!

Do you think the level of brutality can also be where you are in your dancing journey. If you are a beginner and had someone bark at you I dont think you would be back, but if you are climbing are keen to learn more how would you find someone yelling at you and I believe they do.

A coach will only say something they see needs improving, so it's not like they're attacking me. Plus, I'm paying them to be critical anyway. That's just how I see it.

I agree, but it depends on the personality type....I would like a person to say it like it is.

Yesterday i got a dose of brutal honesty from a fellow competitor during the competition (not in our heat but a rising star junior). She told me I was not extending my neck enough. It stung a bit - but she was right and I think it really helped....

i agree. and a wise instructor will know to hold back on the newbs. shoot, even seasoned students can take offense easily... being harsh on a newb is likely professional suicide!
