First partner-dance memory??

What is the first partnerdance that you can remember?

My earliest memory is actually ballroom dancing - in middle school.  We must have been 11-12 yrs old and (surprise) I remember the girls wanted to do it and the boys most definitely did not.  It was one of those things that the pre-teens suffered through!

Unfortunately, i can't remember exactly what I thought of it - but obviously there was no blazing firework going off in my brain at that time!

Mum took me along to one of her lessons, I must've been about 10 or 11. I had massive fun, but everyone was older and bigger and therefore scary, and I stopped going.

Err...the grab'n'sway at the middle school dance?   On the upside, at least I did get to do it with my major crush at the time...

Me and DP are gonna dance around our formal. To anything that's danceable at least.

Year 7 PE class. Square dance! It was in Canada. Good ol' Canadia!

In 1986, our PBS station featured two hours of the Ohio Star Ball. Dad was flipping across it, and the old perv happened to pause on the Latin division (gee, skimpy costumes, wonder why...*eyeroll*). The first time I saw partnered Latin/Ballroom (we watched the rest of it, too), was a junior couple- he was 11, she was 9, in bright fluorescent costumes dancing cha-cha to the Hansel Martinez version of Love Potion #9.

I was eight, and a slow-witted child at that, but I knew what I saw was what I wanted to be doing for the rest of my life. When I said that aloud, I was laughed at for like three days straight, because how could 'something like *me* do something like *that*?" Needless to say, when we *did* start dancing on July 11, 2005, Latin/Rhythm has always been a subliminal hang-up for me. Not that standard/smooth's doing so great currently, either, but it's "safer" than the rest in my brain, for some reason.

My first partner dance experience for myself was learning dressage, but a lot of people here would beg to differ. I never danced until a Paso Fino (horse breed) show when everyone was a little bit lit, and some guy pulled me in hella close for a merengue of the likes I've not experienced since, LOL. I don't count hold n' sway as dancing- or didn't until I re-visited it semi-recently. Strange, I don't remember enjoying it *that* much... made me totally forget the couple summers of country dancing in high school- *and* the partner, too! :-D
