hey now! Can't we be both AT afficiandos and ballroom people at the same time?
Only if you promise to close the door after you....
Since this was posted 3 days after PDO started it seems the door was very heavy and securely locked!!
I was wondering though: ballroom has its competitions for those that would try to prove their prowess. I know that AT Frowns on comps (least I think I know) so how do AT people do the same? Is it more like the jazz scene say where its all 'knowing' rather than like the ballroom 'performance competitions'?

I met someone last night at a milonga and asked them how often they danced :
Her : "Oh I dont dance much any more"
Me : "Oh! you've managed to cope with the addiction, then?"
Her : "Well I have been dancing for 4 years now. And I danced all the time for the first year or so"
Me : "Oh"
left thinking
a) 4 years - is that all?!
b) It's the people with addictive personalities (like myself!) who find it hardest...
Meaning you've given up on being cured, or you just have no desire to be cured? Not sure if you're still around, captain j. Nice thread.

That dates back to the creation of PDO - we had quite a few that came over from DF for various reasons (many stayed on both forums and still do). we never quite made AT a self-sufficient in numbers...

I think dancing regardless of form is addictive...BTM is a AT tango person.... most that came spoek about ballroom but it was always interesting to read about the other form.

You do realize that saying ballroom and tango in the same sentence is blasphemy, right? Just kidding! People are passionate about their preferred form, though. *understatement*

What I find unique about AT is that the AT lovers I know are among the most literate of dancer. They strive to know the dance, the culture, the history, the musical analysis ... You name it. So AT becomes more of a lifestyle than just a dance.

Unlike pro-am ballroom - which is actually a hole in your bank account

So one's an affordable addiction and the other's an expensive one?
