(Although in tango, if you want to get much beyond T-A-N-G-O, it's kind of hard to avoid.)

Uh... we dance a lot of tango, and there aren't a lot of the figures going contra LOD for more than one count- and you can also always rotate them- that's our argument for the open left box- people go forward, but then start going right backward again instead of rotating and opening it.

Agreed. Last night, we covered all 10 basics of tango (amer)... not steps... basic elements. The emphasis was on dancing these basics around the LOD w/o rotating on one spot, crossing the median, o going against the lanes.

The most beautiful part of the dance is often found in between the steps... and in the movement within the stillness.

I found that it really helps if I dance without my left hand.  Roll Eyes

As in dropping it down?

We find that helpful too...in fact, last night we had a really crowded/slow moving VW...Dropping hands was about the only thing you could do, apart from changing directions randomly.

what I find is that some social dancers just do their own thing without consideration, (as I am sure comp dancers are known for), especially when they needs to be two rows. sometimes unnecessarily, people don't like to use the whole floor in NV and makes the space very small unnecessarily..(unless a progressive).

I just think that people need to be respectful of everyone on the floor.

But to avoid things we also drop our arm, it lets the follower know that a stop or a change to the normal is necessary and also not to bunny chop someone else's head.

If Q's partner has a gown...she would have to be careful indeed.

good catch.  thats the trouble with Q and V having very similar avatars - too easy for me to mix up.
