On the whole its fine - but sometimes you get the over-confident, untrained lead that is positively dangerous.  This one grabs you tight and uses the force in his body to try to make you go where he wants you - the result is disasterous and there is no way to maintain a shred of your method other and you make a bee-line to the washroom or some big guy that will pretend to be your brother...

Exactly.  There's no quicker way to a dislocated shoulder than via an enthusiastic new lead.  Shocked Grin  This is a fine reason to be selective about which dances one dances with a beginner. Anything that's arm intensive = a no go, in my book.

I'm assuming you mean that figuratively.  And (not to be difficult or anything.  Really just asking)  How do you know they can follow?  meaning do you observe follows for a while before asking them to dance?
