In other words, how did you pick the dance genre(s) that you dance?  Have you tried and failed at/rejected/evolved beyond other types of dance?

You hear it all the time in the dance world.  "I can't dance smooth; it's too flamboyant." "I can't dance standard; it's too restrictive." "I don't want to dance New Vogue;it doesn't use lead follow." "Ballroom tango is artificial." "AT is pretentious."

And the insults go on and on.

My take is that every dance has its distinct beauty and that it's really a matter of personal preference. So what is it that made you prefer the dance you do?  And why?  Would you ever consider trying other dances? Which ones?  Why?

Total aside:  Is anybody old enough to remember the commercial that inspired this thread's title?

Cant say that I know the commercial but I know lots of people will poo poo another's style, but in the end they are all good. you hve to go to the one that you feel comfortable with. I have learnt not to judge

Exactly.People like to poo poo each other.   But why they pick, for example, Latin instead of standard, in my mind has nothing to do with the merits of Latin versus standard.

The commercial, btw, was started in 1959 and went on until the early 80's IIRC, for Ken L Ration, a brand of dog food owned by Quaker Foods at the time.

Or,if you look at it from another angle, perhaps an infinite number.  Grin

For me,it was accident.  Where I lived at the time, there was no international,so that wasn;t available as a choice.
