I'm not sure why, but I didn't realize that New Vogue and standard were judged at the same competitions. I thought that the two dance families were kept separate.  I guess you learn something every day.  Smiley

Hello and welcome to PDO....   We have all three style at every comp.....a bit more variety Cheesy

Interesting.  I've heard quite a few dancers -- especially standard dancers, come to think of it -- make some disparaging remarks about sequence dances. I'd be interested to hear the thoughts of people who do both.Hmm. Maybe I'll start a new thread.

Standard dancers (of which I am one) often make equally disparaging remarks about smooth (which I obviously don't) - which is actually very similar to NV, without the sequences.

OK now that the dust has settled I can report about our last competition. We were very happy with the results. As per usual the Seniors/Masters section was the most strongest, which is a shame but at least we keep dancing going.

We did six events in total three of each in New Vogue and Standard. I did post on facebook that we got 2sts and 2nds and 2 thirds, but I think I am incorrect it was 1st three seconds and two thirds. But we were very happy with the results. New Vogue we made a couple of boo boos but we were tired putting in an enormous effort, and were given great applause for our Tangos which is becoming our signature dance Cheesy.

Our coach says that we are becoming more consistent that that helps a lot with your dancing and can now take it to the next level which will be playing with the time and shaping. We have another two major comps coming up one this week-end and another in two weeks time. We are very excited.

On top of that we did a floor show on Saturday night for my dad, he was wrapt and it was the first time that my extended family got to see me dance Cheesy

Knee is a bit sore but will break out the ice machine and see the physio tomorrow.

I was wondering how things went.  Sounds like great results.  Smiley   Do you have any photos or video you want to share?    ETA:  If not, that's fine. Not everybody is comfortable sharing such things.   Cool

Also fantastic that you were able to honor your Dad (for his birthday weekend I assume.)  Smiley Smiley

Hi all
Yes we danced yesterd both ballroom and new vogue. We were only 1 of three interstate couples attending, it was a national competition.
The trouble with the west it is that it is so far away for our eastern cousins.
Their numbers are low in Seniors and we were only 1 of 2 Open level dancers. Regardless we still danced our little hearts out as the public still deserves a good floorshow.

We ended up second in both styles which we were thrilled with. The couple that won are  veterans of the sport and it is nice to know we are catching them up.

They are all so friendly this way it is a pleasure to come over.

Good stuff - results always depends on who else shows up of course - and thats critical with a small comp.  If they happen to be champions, well best to be seen at their level Smiley

But what do yo mean by 'catching them up' did you get some 1st placings in the scoring?

Depending on who else is on the floor, even holding your own can be a very good thing. Smiley Congrats, Q!
