Most dancesport aficionados know the pro world champions and many know the amateur ones - but do you know the senior champions?

I was very lucky to be at the Kingston Canadadancesport competition where the IDSF world standard championship was held and I got to watch everything except the final (had to drive back to Toronto).  Slawomir Lukawczyk &  Edna Klein from Belgium won that and are listed as the world champions on dancesportinfo:

They were amazing to watch and from where I was sitting Slawomir looked like a reincarnated Fred Astaire Cheesy

I don't know the senior latin couple though - Gwenael Lavigne & Stephanie Godet from France are the number one on DSI.

I think I only have the quarter and semi as I ran out of tape.  I went through four of them.

I am on dial-up so if I put it on Youtube it may be next year's Kingston before you get it.  ee I have made a copy of the whole thing for you.  You will be able to use it to upload what I have.

Yes I am out to prove to people that seniors can dance beautifully, a lot of people see us as a joke....but just because we are older does not mean we cant dance well and be great to watch. Cheesy

Do you really feel that?  I don't at all.  I get a lot of compliments from people who are half or even a third my age....

the people close to us don't feel like that, but I think the organisers of events do...they see the masters as a fill in... I remember at one comp after a masters event  He says " Well now for some serious dancing...we have the  Adult Latin..

We were not competing at that stage and I thought well that is rude. Roll Eyes

I see - and yes, that happens here too.  However, since we have pro-am that is definitely at the bottom of the pile and elevates the senior comps.

However, in any case both IDSF and Blackpool have senior events - that in itself should be reason to take it seriously.  not to mention the fact that we are major contributors to the cost of the competition.  Here the coaches take pride in how their couples fare - its a status thing to have your couple rank highly so that helps to get us appreciated.

I'm surprized there was not a complaint lodged.  I think I would have...

The kids come and go but it's the seniors that are the mainstay and the organizers should remember this.  Have I already said this before or am I having a senior's moment.
