Heard something today that made me think of what you wrote here Elise. What I heard was: "Words don't teach. You have to have your own personal experience in order to have that knowledge".
I think that's why my current coach's teaching is so effective. It's almost like I never have to "remember" anything. DSV, my coach is remarkably similar to you in that aspect.

In the lab I often tell the students that they do not know any technique until they have made all the mistakes possible
