Inspired by the Prestige Awards thread.  Are there any ballroom dance awards out there that actually mean something to real dancers?  I don't mean to start comparing the merits of different competitions  That's a separate and (I think) complex topic.

I mean awards, such as for excellence in dance, overall lifetime achievement, contribution to the dance community, etc?   Or even awards won at a comp?

I've heard of a couple awards (not going to name names) that dance teachers involved in the scene called not worth [expletive] because they were more about money than anything else.  Same deal with top teacher/stop student awards at pro-am comps.  Many people believe that those are more about money than anything else.

So.  When a ballroom dancer tells you they won [blah] what makes you sit up and take it seriously? What can a comp or ballroom award do to gain itself credibility with real dancers who know the real deal?

the award I would want would be the best competitor award given from the people I competed against  Wink  Its actually the only one that really means anything...

Amen to that.

Of course, there are comps like OSB, USDC, Blackppol (and perhaps others I don't know about) that get taken seriously just because of the name.

What makes those comps different is probably also a good part of this discussion.  Cool
