Humourous names for dances and steps

I like to make up perverse names for things, dance things included. I guess we've all referred to rumba as "rumble" and tango as "tangle". Tonight we went over a bolero step which, according to the DVIDA sylllabus, is referred to as "Curl, Fan, and Lunge". Well, DVIDA is notorious for their wordy names for things... therefore, I decided tonight that this step will be known as "Curl, Hook, Slash, and Penalty Box".

heh, yeah, the apache throwup is always a common one at any FA studio I've been too.
My mom calls step one in the FA cha syllabus (roundabout crossovers), the whirling dervish. To make the woman turn 1 and a half times every measure in their first bronze step is a little tough.
3+ years down the road now, of course she has no trouble with it anymore.

I remember the Apache throwout!
And...um...yeah. That whirling dervish. Took me MONTHS to get it even remotely acceptable. For a while there those turns went in every direction except the one I was supposed to be going in...

and all I have to do is stand there and move enough for her to spot on me if she wants. Heh, I know one pro even used to not step the 4&1. Basically just did one long step to side at right speed to match her.

rule # 1. when you are turning - always turn your hear in the direction where you're going.
your ear? probably you mean your heart ??
or was that the funny bit???

Yeah, let's not get started on the man's vs. woman's parts for that particular step...
My pro back then used to just stand there and grin at me while I was pretending to be a whirling dervish.

It is actually "Lunge to Promenade". The "Lunge" part comes from the lunging action done in fencing.

V6
Fishtail
Waves
The V6...........are actually 6 steps danced in the shape of a "V"
The Fishtail......if danced correct will show a rough outline of a fishtail if seen from above.
The Waves......was original danced more curved then it is done today outlining a sound wave.
