With papers, especially those in Nature, do they expect huge amount of data or just one or two that's really striking? Where is the bar for publication now a days?

The bar seems to be only cocktails.

there was a time when science was really fun and you had to design a super elegant experiment that would answer your question in one fell strike.  Just read papers from the 40s 50s and 60s.  then came the barrage of techniques and somehow everyone felt safer if you could see something similar wiht umpteen different approaches, even though none of them actually proved the point - there's a lot of that in Nature now but what can do is to create a smoke screeen or security blanket and when you actually poke at it it all blows away...
