Okay.  Poll time.

What do you call cold, carbonated, non-alcoholic drinks where you live (other than bad for you?  Grin )

I've heard soda, pop, cold drink, soft drink, tonic ... all in the US (except tonic in West Africa)

Ran into this one at work the other day.

"The Devil's a liar!"

African American expression meaning, "I don't want to be forced to call you a liar to your face, but, if the shoe fits ..."

No idea what you mean.  I just think it's funny, like a lot of colloquialisms.

Like my born and bred Texas cowboy friend who, when he's had a large meal, will declare that he's "fatter than a tick after a Monday night dog show!"  What the ?!?! does that mean?

Another African-American expression:  "Dry long so" meaning just for the heck of it, for no particular reason, just because you can.
