Aussie Smooth

I know that we have discussed it on the DTWS thread, but how do you see the future of this style? I have not tried it yet...I see that there are set rules as per the DWTS website. What have you heard from your fellow dancers

thought i would post the rules set out on the website here:

For Episode 5 we are showcasing "Aussie Smooth". This will be based on various sub-genres of dance including Dance Sport Viennese Waltz, Australian New Vogue and International Smooth.

In this episode, the rules for this dance are as follows:

1. Choreography must incorporate Dance Sport Viennese Waltz (Closed competitive dance-sport hold).

2. Each couple must not separate for more than 8 bars (counted as: 1.2.3 / 2.2.3 / 3.2.3 / 4.2.3 etc...)

3. Each couple are allowed to incorporate other styles of dance from Australian New Vogue and International Smooth.

As always on DWTS the intention of this dance is to combine several different genres into an exciting show dance format for the Australian public.

Wow. I had no idea that DWTS airs in Australia.  (Awfully self-absorbed American of me, I know. In my defense, the boards I frequent  act as if the US version is the only one that exists.)

Yes they have incorporated New Vogue Steps with the release moves that come into American Smooth. I have not yet heard if there is anything on TV for this year it normally would be on now I have heard nothing. I think it has died a slow death here :-/

I think its popularity is dying down in a lot of places, including the US.  The producers here are considering changing the types of "stars" featured in the cast, to try to attract a younger audience.

Big mistake,IMHO.

well the decisions are made often by people who dont understand dancing at all. and if anyone with dance experience provides input it will be for a different genre of dance....
