actually its argentine tango just danced at 3/4 time rather than 2/4.  Its actually quite nice.  We did AT for about a year but couldn't get out of the ballroom feel so ended up giving up.  mm

know that feeling...it is hard to go from such an open embrace to a closed one. but there are a few AT songs that cross over that we dance to, I just dont know the names

My instructor and I are working on choreographing something to Marillion's "Out of This World".  It's part rumba, part VW, and part I-don't-know-yet.  The show is in August, and I'm already wondering if there's enough time.

LOL, I'm well acquainted with that feeling.  In my neck of the woods, David Medeiros is putting on a new one-day comp on May 8 (very small, will be mostly ABC people with some from out of town) and I'm wondering if we can get our cha-cha showcase back in shape in time to do the showdance then.

Ooh, I've had a whole list of "modern" songs that are danceable.

But I think I left it in my Psych workbook, which is at school.

From memory:

Samba: Alejandro - Lady Gaga
Holiday - Vanessa Amorosi

Cha cha: Um, everything. Will update when list arrives.

Quickstep: Hey Soul Sister - Train (If DWTS is to be believed)

Jive: Magic - B.O.B
Lying - Amy Meredith

Tango - Lady Gaga - Bad Romance(with altering to strengthen beat) (would also work as Cha Cha)
Foxtrot - Mika - Grace Kelly (needs tempo adjustment), Michael Buble - All of Me
Viennese - Paramore - The Only Exception
Cha Cha - September - Cry for You, Rihanna - Disturbia, Adam Lambert - If I had You, Slinkee Minx - Summer Rain, Taio Cruz - Break Your Heart, Enrique Iglesias - I Like It, Brian McFadden - Chemical Rush
Rumba - Bruno Mars - Just the Way you Are
Jive - End Of Fashion - Fussy, Gyroscope - Baby I'm Gettin' Better

This guy's not so popular, but his songs are fairly good to dance to

Viennese Waltz - Andy Bull (Feat. Lisa Mitchell) - Dog (content warning...it swears)

Quickstep - Andy Bull (Feat. Hungy Kids of Hungary) - The Last Waltz (difficult to keep beat in some parts)

I was listening to Hayley Westenra - Dark Waltz the other day and realized it would make an interesting Argentine Waltz. It's slow, so stepping primarily on the 1 would take quite a bit of expression to pull off. But since you can step to anything with AT/Vals, you could instead step to the melody or strings.  Smiley

it wouldnt work as as a vals too slow and not enough waltz impetus; I'm not even sure its in 3/4 time, but that might be my musical dunciness; you could AT it be it dont inspire me.
