well, the plan was to both go and compete
but it all depends on the current setback... though things might be improving...

No plans yet. Hoping my TA couple will get invited to compete, and would love to go cheer them on, but it's all jsut wishful thinking so far.
No idea what budget will be like then.

I need to apply for a passport before I think about leaving the country.
one day. one day
Ugh, don't even mention passports with me... I've got some mental gymnastics going on to try and figure out how I'm going to renew mine before it expires in November.

luckily mine's only two years old.
But had some work to get it renewed this last time. I had let it expire, then accepted job in other country. had to pay all the extraditing fees and do everything else I could to hurry the process.

Ahh, see, I'm in a similar process, yet a little further ahead. I've got the job and I'm already working down here, but in order to do the "simplified renewal process", I have to surrender my old passport and it'll take about four weeks. That means I can't travel by air during that time, which doesn't work for my current schedule. So, I have to find a way to get back home and try to get the expedited "simplified" process going with the hope of getting the new passport in 48-72 hours.

Yeah, when I quit job, had similar problem. I had a trip for Dubai planned before I'd be leaving the country. But had to turn in my passport to process out my visa. So had to either skip trip to Dubai, or delay leaving the country. Sadly, I chose to skip the trip to dubai.

You should go ahead and do it; now's the time, when you don't have any immediate plans. It can take several months. Once you get it, it's good for ten years.

Roughly what would it cost? I know the pound-dollar exchange rate is not very favorable for Americans right now.
