I just bought a tiny microphone (about 15 mm) for my IPOD nano for only $15. It plugs into the audio outlet and, lo and behold, the software is built in. I just tried it out with speech and it seems pretty good - later I'll test it with music.
This is fantastic since it turns the ipod into a tape recorder with hours of space.

Well, this might be the place to ask what type of MP3 people have and what they recommend. My sister has an iPod nano and I am leaning toward getting that....

I have a classic, but I'm thinking of picking up something that is more convenient for exercise purposes. The classic is a bit bulky and Apple doesn't make an iPod big enough to fit my music.

The iPod classic. It's the original model and the one with the most space. I have one.

Yep. The big bugger. There are two models: 80GB and 120GB. It's about the same size as a Blackberry.

Interesting. How is the audio quality?
I recorded a (live) flute concert and choir over the weekend - and the recording was really very good, astonishing considering its tiny size. Nothing really beats the old coil analogue ones but for a microphone on the go this is amazing - and no one suspects its a microphone
(or should I put that on the 'I'm spying on you' topic

Interesting. I've been wanting something for ambient sound sampling that has better sound quality than my memo recorder.

I have a iPod nano and a Nextar MP3. I use my MP3 more than my IPod as I find it more user friendly but that may be that I'm not that up on all the Ipod stuff.

I'm a newbie myself - but rapidly becoming an adict. I have two head phones - one I bought before - they are ear buds and the other the standard that comes with the Ipod. Very different uses. The buds cut out all outside sound and are a great way to isolate yourself in the music. the standard ones kinda hang in your ear and provide sound as if you had a radio on - you hear everything else too. So those are great for driving - my car is so sound proof anyway I worry about missing emergency vehicles...
