yes indeed - and that IS what I was referring to. Not only that but they have a significant rise and fall.   

You mentioned that the man's and women's parts are different can you explain a little?

Ah, mystery solved. Not to reply for DSV, but allow me to repost....

The man has a downward action on the pivot, and a rise on the spin. The lady's rise/lower is an illusion achieved by proper body alignment and proper pivot technique.

If you watch again, closely, the video, you will notice that she has no actual/technical foot rise/lower. Yet, she is rolling perfectly through the feet.

yes I see that - she compensates for the foot action with her knees?  But he is clearly rising and falling, is that standard or just their take.  Its quite a curious action in all, but very beautiful...

We have a kink in this topic though TD.  Back a while you distinguished three types of pivot whereas I got the impression that DSV only referred to two.  Its not often that you two have any contrasts so I wonder if you could explain?

I think you misunderstood here Elise.

TD talked about the basic principles about pivot/s. I agree with the discription of the basic principles of pivots that TD discribed.

I on the other hand only talked about the step combination of Spin-Pivots as that was what I understood to be the question from your first post.

I just went back and re-read TDs post and you are partially right - he did not mention three types but two: a pivot and 'continuous pivots'.  He then mentioned 'spin pivots' as a distinct form of 'continuous pivots' (I thought he listed continuous pivots and spin pivots as distinct types - hence my error).

Whats confusing me still is that you have focused exclusively on 'spin pivots' so now I do not know what constitutes 'continuous pivots' - the implication of the above is that there must be at least one other form of 'continuous pivot' other than 'spin pivots'.

I don't know if this helps, but i thought i would put here the deffinitions i have of a pivot:

Pivot (turn) A turn on the ball of one foot. (i.e. the 4th step of a Spin Turn for man)
Natural Pivot A turn to the right on the ball of the LF holding the right foot in front in CBMP
Pivoting Action The counterpart of a natural pivot. A turn to the right on the ball of the RF. The LF id NOT held in CBMP

Unless these are all different types ofpivoting actions there seems to be some conjecture between techniques books as well...
(ofcourse i could just be misunderstanding something )

Now I can only talk from my experience. 

When my teachers talked about “Pivots” then they were always talking about a series of Reverse Pivots and never about Spin-Pivots. So when I hear the word “Pivots” I always think of the Reverse Pivots that are often danced after a Double Reverse Spin as an example.

So I was thinking of a reverse turning step and you (Elise) were thinking of a natural turning step. I hope you now understand the confusion.

Thanks for the clarification DSV.  I've learned enough to know that the technique for reverse and natural (spin) pivots is very different.  So maybe we can go there soon.
