Men are also like wine, in that you have to stomp on them until they're ready and decent enough to have a meal with, but I digress.
Haha!

I didn't want to do country specific styles as it would end up being extreamly confusing and not very accurate, as Elise suggested start some new threads on the coutry specific dances

good advice - you should do latin when you are young if you ever want to be good at it. And leave standard for us pensioners
(there, just trying to reduce the competition a bit hehehehe...)
I have recently seen some of us pensioners doing latin and I agree leave it to the young ones..
Don't give up and say never. My DP and I have won our way up to Pre-Champ beating those young ones. We looked like the escorts at a prom but we didn't let them throw us and believe me, victory is so sweet when you go along the line toward the first place spot shaking the hands of all those 18 year old and 20 somethings whose butts you kicked.

my choice has been to do standard at both am and pro-am - that takes all the time I can muster for dancing. Besides, last time I tried latin (whiich I love by the way) my hips hurt

Perhaps a good way for me to say it is that in standard I can allow the Scarlett Ohara genteel lady out, in latin I let out the red light district lady.

I dunno, I think you could use Scarlett for both, Rugby. Scarlett in her green sprigged muslin barbeque dress for Standard, and Scarlett in that red velvet dress with the boa that Rhett made her wear to Ashley's birthday party for Latin (or also that red dressing gown she had on when Rhett carried her up the stairs)!
