Okay, the shoes in the video freak me out, but here's a demonstration:

And a comp performance:

P.S., if you come to Nashville StarZ in January, David Hamilton has a country western-themed night and has a pro CW invitational during the evening session.

Don't have finalized dates yet, but if I had to guess, it'll probably be Jan. 22-24.

Usually in Country the shoes are actually cowboy boots. Some are soft soled and are like a practice shoe with a cowboy boot top.

Yes. Serious C&W dancers often get Evenin Star dance boots, which have a special flexible sole that's made for dancing. You can buy them ready made or if you catch them at the right time of year, you can get them custom made, just for dancing. I believe they only take custom orders once a year. IIRC, that is.
What' being demonstrated in the videos above is not what I would call "country two-step" though. It's nightclub two step, which IS danced in a lo of country bars but whch, IIRC, actually originated in California. I'll have to google it because I don't remember completely, but I think its origin had something to do with Buddy Schwimmer, the famous WCSwinger from decades back.
Country two-step, OTOH, is a progressive dance which has a basic similar to foxtrot. I'll see if I can find a video. ETA: Here's a video. It's hard to see the basic pattern, because they add a lot of turns and spins fot the lady (which is pretty typical or good two-steppers btw) but you can see that the dance progresses around the floor along the line of dance.

Back to the boots. I was wrong. Evenin Star does custom orders twice a year, not once. (Their website has a cute picture of some cheerleaders wearing them. Never occurred to me that dance teams, etc, might use them for costuming, but it makes sense)

But yeah. The shoes are usually boots. Here's a video taken at the World's ,a huge country dance comp.
