there is an expression; quite colloquial "He saw his arse" which means to become angry. I wonder if that applies here.

Hmmm.  So if he sees his shaddow there will be 6 weeks more of winter and if not there will be early spring.  So what does it mean if he sees his derriere?  6 weeks in traction?
