I'm not at the higher levels and my lessons are very stop and start, but I do find myself smiling a lot while I'm dancing.  I don't know if its because I like my instructor or I'm having fun or I am feeling improvement or what, but smiles seem to come more spontaneously these days.

It doesn't matter why you smile; the important thing is that you are enjoying yourself.  Wink Cheesy You are feeling good, so you smile. Keep enjoying it and you will smile all the way to wherever it is you want to go.

great advice.... if only we could retain more of the simplicity and wonder of life from childhood how much happier, content and creative we would all be...

of course that sounds a bit pollyannaish - the realities of life to take their toll - but to be a full person is to keep a place within that is all child...

Having watched myself dance with a partner on video.. I find there are parts of me that lack expression;

my partner on the other hand who has done ballet in the past has a whole range of movements; through head, neck arms and torso that are expressive; she is OTT.

Therfore it is both what you feel inside and what you reveal.  If you are a perfomer with an audience; its no good twitching your lip to show sadness; the movement has to be big; thats why theatrical makeup is bolder than what ladies wera in everyday life.

I am a master of hiding my feelings being an introvert; but the feelings are there; which is not a problem when in this particular dance the theme is ennui distance in a relationship; but its revealing other stuff.

So is I suggest you watch some ballet or contemporary dance on youtube and ask yourself what a movement might be conveying.

Who in your opinion has the BEST expression in dance?

1 for latin/rhythm
1 for standard/smooth

Nikolai makes the best facial expressions in Latin for me, they crack me up sometimes.
Garry Gehkman love his for standard

um .... for latin woman .... Daniella ( the one that won Nationals)
uh ... standard ... dunno? I have to think on this one.
