There's a big controversy brewing in the WCS community. If you dance WCS at many, if not most, social venues, you'll see old school, down home, WCS, often danced to blues, slow tempo swing or C&W music. But if you go to competitions or shows, you're likely so see something completely different -- WCS danced to everything from pop to hip hop and everything in between.  Do you have a preference?  If so, why?

Duly noted.  Wink

It'll be interesting to see how others vote.  It's a huge controversy.  According to a friend who is involved with one of the bigger WCS organizations in the US, there have even been rumblings about either disqualifying some of the competitive routines of dancers who use "too much" hip hop, lyrical, ballet, etc, and not enough "swing content," or changing the competition rules moving forward so that a minimum amount of recognizable "swing content" must be included in competition routines.

The problem is defining what "swing content" means, other than "we'll know it when we see it."

I'm sure we'll be hearing more about this, in the future.  Should be interesting.

Here's a fine example, IMO, of a WCS that remembers what WCS is supposed to be, but still explores new dance styles.  Hip hop in this case.  I am not a fan of the music, but the dance looks like swing... to me.

I know it's swing sacrilege, but I am not a fan of this guy.  Too much fancy stuff; not enough swing for my taste Plus he looks like he's strangling her.   Just sayin.

I like the balance in this dance.  Obviously hip hop influences, but you can still see clear elements of WCS throughtout the whole dance.
