Love the samba, I can really go wild in this one. Just ask DP.

If I may, for those of you having hip issues with the samba, I find most often that the problem is improper or missing contraction. Once this is developed, everything falls into place; the rise becomes evident, the up-and-over bounce is removed, the forward/back action is easier. Most of all, the hip movement is placed where it belongs, and, voila...no problem. Love this dance!
Question...most schools omit the carioca from their list of basics. Someone know why? I guess the answer would also explain why the batucadas are almost always danced incorrectly (that is to say without the carioca footwork).

The most beautiful part of the dance is often found in between the steps... and in the movement within the stillness.

I would like to know more in how to do the basics and create the proper action.
Like how do I roll through the knees? How do I make the lower part of the body move and not the upper part? How do I even learn this dance.

This is the biggest problem I have on my list to work on. This is problem numero uno for me. This one's like "Houston, forget that other thing...".
I'll be glad to share when I have finally figured it out. I'm working on it every day 'though.

I don't do latin, but does it come from the one leg being straing while the otherone bends slightly, giving the hips a up and down action. I am learning that latin legs are much stiffer than what I thought.
