Fantastic turnout for the Ontario Closed at the prechampionship and up levels. Looking through the entries book there are a lot of youngsters in the sport - plenty of semi finals and more and seem to be quite a few at the Adult level. However, participation at older levels seems down. For example in Sr I standardthe bronze had a semi final, Silver has 4 couples and 5 couples in gold. Sr II however, has 2 in bronze, none in silver and 2 in gold.
So why are there so many entries in this competitoin in prechamp and champ and such a drop off at many of the other ontario comps?

This one people had to go to if they wanted to be able to go into the Canadian Closed so it pulled people out of the woodwork. I know one couple from Ottawa wanted to go into Sr. 2 Silver but they were told since they would be the only couple it was not going to be held.

That seems a bit hard. Perhaps they could have approached some of the bronze couples and invited them to dance up! |

As long as they are still allowed to go into Sr. 2 Silver Standard at the Canadians. It would not be fair if they could not because it was cancelled at the Ontario Closed.

Crowded floor last night but a great atmosphere in the studio with Maurizio and Andra (Vescovo and Vaidilaite) home - we now have two pairs of Blackpool pro semi- or finalists in the studio (Anton Lebedev and Anna Borsch are the others)!! Is this a first for Canada...?

Very nice comp this weekend - Extravaganza - but a curious distribution of entries. Seems to be rather few pro-am couples (thought plenty of single heats - so many uncontested) but a respectable Sr entry. Each event we were in was either a full final (6+) or a full semi (13). Lovely location (the hotel is spatious and very comfortable) and the event ran smoothly and enough competition to make it very enjoyable. This should be better supported!
