You see all those gorgeous pictures of couples in amazing poses or expressing intense energy and passion. How dothey do it? How can YOU do it? Thats the question here.
Some things to think about:
The camera (where else to start!).
The lighting (flash? natural? spots?)
The motion (is your camera 'fast' enough - not a simple question)
The background. (that white table cloth will make havoc with the white gown...)
Lots of stuff to think on - and you CAN make fabulous shots with a little preparatoin....

There seem to be a lot of dancers who move from pose to pose, as well, instead of dancing.

 I hadn't thought of it that way -but you are exactly right. A lot of them actually avoid the basics in fear that people will see that they can't actually dance.... |

Its only the dances I know a little....but there seems to be a lot of "striking a pose" in some Standard dances. I think it is easier to do that in Rhythm and Latin, but you should take that comment with a grain of salt as I don't dance those dances too often.

OTOH 'striking a pose' as you put it (a picture line I think the term is) is actually a lot of fun and allows a different emotional expression - why not start a thread on that on the ballroom board? I think it would be terrific...

Hmmm..., never thought of that, but then, there isn't too much "pose striking" at my level of dance. Which is why I felt comfortable posting that here, as I know there are huge differences between pre-bronze and pre-champ levels.
I could only start a discussion, but you, or others, as more advanced dancers would be the ones carrying it on.

I have to blow the horn for our newest, member GSR Studio Inc.. They have taken some fantastic picutures of me and believe me that's a feat because in no way am I even remotely photogenic. I have had alot of companies take pictures or videos of me and was disappointed at the quality but this studio is amazing. I'm hoping that they will be at the Ontario Open and Maple Leaf.

Yes we are keeping all the photos in two different locations as a back-up for last 15 years. I just need to know more info: Competition name and year and info regarding the couple + color of the dress . The photos will be published on our web for your convenience . All the best , Gregory |
