A old topic, but still relevant, IMO.
I have witnessed the birth and death of so many well-intended dance venues over the years. Problem? Most places that market themselves as "dance clubs" have a business model in which the sale of alcohol is the biggest driver of profit. These places are basically bars where you can also dance.
But, as I'm sure we all know, many serious dancers are not into drinking, at least not while they're out dancing. Being inebriated kills the spins.
If the profit comes from booze and dancers don't drink, eventually venues close and the dance goes away. Does it have to? Have you seen dance places that navigate this successfully? How?
What kinds of clubs/venues manage to stay open to dancers even without the booze bonus? How? What, if anything, can non-drinking dancers do to support establishments that open their doors to serious dancers?
