Thanks millitiz. Smiley

A fine question.  What is it that makes ballroom dance, ballroom -- easily identifiable and nothing other than ballroom?

There's been a lot of talk, recently, about high level competitors really pushing the envelop, changing the look and feel of the dance. And then, there's the fact that,to the uninitiated, "ballroom" could mean any one of nineteen (or even more) dances.  Heck.  To some people, ballroom dance = partner dance.

So,in your mind, what is it that characterises ballroom dances -- as in international standard waltz, tango, quickstep,Viennese waltz, foxtrot  -- and makes them a genre unto their own? You can recognise it when you see it,right? Okay. So what is it?

To me, fluidity of movement, large frame, smooth transitions, body contact.

Dona nobis pacem.
