Any thoughts for rescuing a hopelessly smelly pair of shoes, or, better yet, thoughts on how to minimize/prevent stinky in the first place?

I have a pair of truly beloved leather practice oxfords that may be beyond help at this point.  I've done everything I an think of, but, the minute I open my shoe bag, their smell is overpowering.

Any thoughts?  And are there other/different things that can be done to rescue satin shoes?

Dona nobis pacem.

The only thing that seems to really work is to put them in the washer.  Look at it this way; either they get better and you have your fave shoes back, or they fall apart and you throw them away - you have to do that anyway if they truly stink...

If you must leave the house, go build a home...
