Well this week-end will be our first Australian comp since June 2012 and will also be four years we began competition dancing. It has been an amazing journey so far, having achieved both the highest level in the both styles we do.

It is a great competition over two days one  day is focused on Teacher and pupil, Pro AM as well as medalists. the other for registered competitors, we have also included a Seniors/masters III section which is for over 60....it is nice to see that things change to include the older dancer who does not want to give up yet!

Good Luck to all competitors.

Same thing is happening here - you can compete until you die!

Of course its really about marketing - the more competitors the more the competition makes - and in the AM world the competitors are getting older with maybe not so many entering at the younger ages.  There is something of a danger that adult AM-AM competition may go extinct...

Well we are half way through this week-end. our results were 2nd in L5 (top) and 2nd in 8 dance which is Standard and New Vogue not Latin Tongue. We had many lovely comments about our standard, Nw Vouge is rusty but will come back only had 7 weeks of training in the last 8 months. Will give a report Monday

Sounds terrific Q.  What an interesting combination - standard and new vogue.  They've started a standard/smooth 9 dance here in pro-am which is similar.

Well after almost 9 months off the competition floor in Australia we made our debut this week-end. We were very happy with our results. We just entered our fourth year of dancing and we are consistently making finals in our home state. We were awarded third in the local 8 dance ( both Standard and New Vogue), only to find out today that we actually placed 2nd :-/ . So We are happy Cheesy but it is out there that another couple were runner up.  They were using a manual system and obviously transposing created an error.

We were very happy with our attempt, Saturday was much better than Sunday, so not sure if I will ever do two days in a row... or if I do then I will have to make that which day is the important one :-/......

We have moved ourselves up the ladder (Locally) and it has help to inspire us to the next level. I feel sure our recent trip to Europe has helped.

We tried something new this yea putting PRO/AM and Teacher and Student plus Masters II & III on one day. It was not that well support in the Teacher and student sections but it was the first year, it needs to get out there and  I do believe it has room for growth in its new format. but organizing and dancing is fraught with problems especially when you are lining up and some competitors trying to winge about things. All in all it was a great week-end but exhausting.

PRO/AM is teachers that are registered with DanceSport, and teacher and student is not ie. Arthur Murray professionals, they cannot dance in the same section as DSA registered professionals.

yes it can but they get marked out of 100, no you are only recognized as a professional if you are dancesport accredited. but you can teach even if you are not accredited.

what are they scared of?  That an AMurray teacher might beat an 'accredited' one?  If they are that much better it should be impossible.  Or is it the AMUrray organization that wants it that way - so that their students don't learn how poor their teachers are - and see how well the students with the accredited pros are doing?  Smiley

I think here it is the Arthur Murray tha want it that way, but I could be wrong,DSA also have rules about accreditation and the standard of the coaches.

thought so - they don't want their students to find out how limited their training really is

yes not sure how many people they keep it becomes very expensive and locked in contracts. It is a double edged sword for them to be involved. people do talk and they will find out that there are cheaper and better options for them.
