Training Partner

With my impending surgery on my knee and I have no idea how long I will be off the floor, what is the feeling about a practice partner for the other partner, what is the consensus about this? I have had two different people recommend it as an option to keep up my partners skills. Those more knowledgeable than me what do you think about this? I know I will be off my feet for at least 10 days and depending what they find could be longer.
Your thoughts?

IMO the more followers the lead dances with the better he becomes. So yes to practise partners - as long, that is, they don't get any IDEAs. Know what I mean....

Thats a bit dodgy too - your partner may feel as if you don't trust him - undermining your relationship. It may be enough to go to the first one so that she can meet you and know that you are a stable partnership.

the person that I have in mind knows us both, I am sure it will sort itself out and hopefully it wont be too long....but I don't want to feel pressured to rush back until I am truly ready....I dont want to break down again!

At least it will keep him going which will help you both get on track once you have recovered.

Be interesting to see how useful it is, sort of one hand clapping?

yes it is one hand clapping but I do feel a huge relief not to be pressured back to the floor until I am ready....

It is true QPO. I have just gotten the green light to start to dance again but the pressure has been great. Even though my DP has been doing the lessons on his own knowing the comps are coming up and we have not been able to really dance together due to my long time off (9 months) has created a lot of frustration in him and pressure on me. I have to be careful and it is hard for him to sit back and watch another comp coming up that we cannot go into but it is better that then try and go in and push it when I am ony just getting back. At least by him still doing the lessons and dancing with a Pro he has been able to work on things and not had to sit out the dancing too.

yes I understand. I know they dont say that they are annoyed because they know you dont want to be injured but it wears thin. Especially like me where it was one knee and that took so long to recover and now the other one...Thankfully it is in much better condition to recover, but long term the prognosis is not good. And when I have to start having knee replacements the time of the floor will again be significant.

I'm in ths same boat. First one foot then the other. Of course usually one creates the other and the fact that I didn't rest the initial injury properly pushed the creation of the other but one way or the other it has been three years total. This time I did back off and my DP had to do his own lessons which I really think worked out well for him. I am getting back into it now that the specialist said I can start to work it back up but my DP thinks that means full steam ahead rather then taking it carefully ahead at a building up steam which is frustrating for me.
