A friend and I were discussing possible competitions we could do (seeing that we share a pro, it's to our advantage to coordinate), and we came to a conclusion that it would be nice to have an independent competitions review website (a sort of wiki on them, or something similar to a site where people review hotels). For example, it would be nice to know in advance that Holiday didn't have a practice floor and that the room didn't even have a coffee maker or WiFi (which was the case when she was there a couple of years ago, the facility clearly wanted you to spend as much of your free time in the casino as possible). Or for example, that another comp had a bad floor, or had its floor updated (which was the case with a few comps we went to, they had the really bad ones, but some of them updated since). Or how their prices compare to the other comps. Or how easy/hard is it to get there (Heritage is one of the worst in this aspect IMO). So anyway, does such thing exist and we don't know about it, or what would it take to get one going?

Good idea

Everyone tries to rush up through the syllabus levles and think once they are at the top they have arrived.  What they don't realize is that by doing this it is like skimming through a book, you may get the gist but you will never understand the story.

ttd  We have a 'competitino stars' topic in the competition sites but no competition duds.

However, I think what you are suggesting requires more - a board of its own for reviews so that each competition can have its own topic.  Let me give this some thought.  Basically I think its a great idea I just worry that we don't have enough input here to make it viable... still, nothing ventured....

It definitely has to be a little more together. This place and DF has threads devoted to each competition with information and details pertaining to each year, but they're not easy to search for, when they're mingled with the rest of the topics.

we have a board dedicated to competitions which is where they are all supposed to be.  On the whole they are there but the aussies like to post about their comps in the aussie board.  What can you do Tongue Cheesy

Perhaps the competion 'posted' 3 months out, with a survey attached???
Ask members for questions to ask --- ie:
cost of hotel   low ($85-110)  med. ($110-$179)   high ($179-++)
floor
availability choice of food and restaurants
size of comp
etc....

Its a neat idea - but someone has to take charge of it.  My hands are kinda full!

there is a strict limit on the size of the attachment.  The problem is that I don't have a large drive to back up PDO so if I permitted large attachments it would be impossible to store!  Check that your attachment is both of the right size (<125K file) and format (JPG is good) then it should be OK.
