I can see it now. "It didn't mean anything! I swear she's just a friend!!"

Speed dating for dance partners? Wow. Ballroom dance really has come into the 21st century with a vengeance. I can imagine that those events would work well to help you eliminate possible partners. I can't see how they would help you find a partner, though. there are too many attributes needed in a desirable partner. No way to tell in the 30-second tryout.
Interesting,though.
I learn something new every day.
I suppose. Because I don't think that a lot of partnerships (if any) formed through this channel.
I probably should elaborate a bit more. These people normally already knew each other (or at least met each other) during group lessons, and normally this event is for the beginners, or anyone that is partnerless...or with a partner
. So it isn't like a typical speed dating event where no one knows no one. So people would have some basic knowledge for each other. Beside, since they were beginner and had no previous experience in partner dancing, I doubt that they really knew what they should be looking for. So as long as they have good chemistry, it could work. Personally, I think that for a beginner, having someone to practice with/compete with is better than nothing - and I think that that is where I will be looking for a partner. It is much easier to see whether a potential partner has the drive and the potential to match yourself through watching his or her practices and competitions.

Well, not if you are much better than the pool of dancers out there

LOL - and I bet you were close to actually having to find a partner after that
lol. I think we were in a relatively stable partnership back then. And thank goodness she didn't take it as an offense.

After re-reading this, I am confused. The express purpose of this mixer was to meet potential dance partners, right?

Yes. Sorry, I knew my English is poor
. Would you mind if I ask which part is confusing?

Your English is fine.
I'm easily confused.
What confused me was "beginners, anyone that is partnerless, or with a partner."
So people go to these mixers with their partners?

Oh yeah. I forgot about that. lol.
I'm not sure that group lessons as partner searches work all that well in a non-youth setting, though. A lot of my classes have been populated by midlifers, married couples and far more women than men.
Not conducive to finding partner. *sigh*
