I know truly modest people - one reason they are modest is because they actually hate being recogniized.

I'm practicing to be modest and getting to be good at it,
 but you have to make sure people realise how modest you are otherwise there's no point........

modesty is not a virtue i value anymore...though i grew up believing it to be morally valuable. don't give a rat's patootie about it, now. IME, the pursuit of modesty is tied closely to its shadow quality, hubris.

i found the antidote to both modesty & hubris to be the same thing: to just be true and present to the reality of "what is", both strengths & weakenesses, without the need to hide or undermine either. Smiley
