the issue that will arise in the coming weeks who will pay for the recovery, they look to the public to donate money as many of the people and businesses dont have flood insurance as the insurance companies wont cover  it because they are on a flood plane.

Now I hear that they may impose a levy on the public to fund reconstruction of the many cities that have been damaged not only house but bridges and roads etc.

The other issue is the toxicity level from all the pollutants that were washed down these rivers. Now everyone is standing in and scooping up this toxic mud. :-/

bout time they resolved not to leave toxins lying around in a flood plain.  There have been too many examples of toxic floods exposing the shortcuts of industry...

the problem is that people live on flood planes andthen they hold things in their shed that are toxic and of course it is not something you are going to rescue when you have to evacuate. Roll Eyes but the long term ramifications are mind boggling

Then there has to be laws for toxic storage - everything has to be in bin that can be sealed.  And everything that is not needed has to be disposed of.
As a species we really are not very good at adapting to the needs of our environment and ecology

mother nature seems to be having her revenge. When we think we are bigger than her she has ways of showing insignificant we are.....
My thoughts are with the people of NZ. Two earthquakes in 5 months.... Undecided

Some of the animal rescue groups have gathered money to go and help the animals that had to be left behind in both the Australia and NZ disasters as well as saving the wildlife.

Its a bit long after the australian one isn't it?  I would have guessed that just about anything still alive is able to survive... Perhaps best to save up for the next need..
