You sound like you might be prone to diabetes, Peaches (says the woman with serious cases on both sides of my family).  Especially if it runs in your family, your insurance just might cover the nutritionist.

I don't get the exercise high either, FWIW.  I don't get angry or resentful, but I definitely am tired afterwards and don't enjoy it one bit.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit.  Hypoglycemia runs on my mom's side of the family, and I seem to be following right in their footsteps.  It was something I could usually ignore (college: real coke, real mountain dew, all the time) because I could eat enough to balance things out.  Problem is, now eating enough means gaining weight.  (Damn you, Mom, for being right about the 30s metabolism crash!!!)

Yeah, artificial sweeteners definitely won't help a blood sugar crash.

Have you tried eating a piece of fruit or having a small glass of juice instead of going for a refined sugar?

Well, the refined sugar was back in the days when I didn't have much of an issue.  Now I go with the diet versions of sodas.

I don't generally eat a lot of refined sugar...or refined much of anything.  I eat a lot of fruit.  If I'm on an even keel otherwise, it will help for a bit.  It will stop the hunger for a while, and stave off the shakes, but I've got to have protein or something else or I just end up shaky again.  If I ignore let the shaky phase go on for too long without eating I find it extremely difficult to get myself back to normal, and it usually takes a day or so before I feel "normal"* again.

*HA!  HAHA!!  HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  ...normal...heh...

Well, right.  Protein and carbs will keep the blood sugar stable for longer--but if you're feeling shaky and low-blood-sugar-y, a piece of fruit or juice should help more than, say, a piece of candy or regular soda, and definitely more than a diet soda, which will effectively do nothing.  Just an observation from watching my Grandpa get the diabetic shakes and what they'd have in the house for him to eat.

Actually lollies or soda works better to bring up a blood sugar level than fruit, but it should definitely be followed up by a snack which is high in carbs or natural sugars

I think we all need to check the packets and food labels a lot more. I have said this before, but stay away from soy products a bit is ok. but it is hidden to much in so many products now that we are eating it way more that we should and it is effecting our metabolism.

that and cutting down on carbs, not eliminating them will really help. I have a book here that tells you depending on your body shaping you should avoid certain foods. women who have more boy figures .. straight figures, should steer away from coffee and those that have pear shape should not eat foods that have combined fats and sugars..

something to think about
