not necessarily.. some times a hand tool is better because you feel what is happening..but in this instance I would agree.... but a belt sander with a rough grit might work as well. i have one similar to this for doing fine work

new shoes are great....but you cant always get new shoes. my practice shoes are getting very thin and cant get them fluffy anymore
