I think you have to do due diligence and check to see if there are any scams on the internet involving  stealing of gowns. I do remember someone on DF went to a comp and someone took the gown that was loaned to them never to be seen again (that I know of) why people would do such a thing. You could never use it at major comps, I just hope it was an accident.

You have to verify everything and perhaps ask for references in the end there has to be an element of trust, but only after you have done your homework.

Yes.There has to be trust, which is why I'd probably go with word of mouth recommendations, if I were in the market for a used gown.
