Well, if this morning is anything to go by, I'm right about myself - I really am not a competitor. It worked....

I am in spirit an all-three-er... but currently mostly hitting up the "expressor" side of things.
But, there's that other dimension which is such a drive... *connection*. The synergy of connection... with the Other, and with the natural forces, that's for me the heart of it all, the great unifier.
Mebbe we need to add a few more voting options.

If I added any more we would never get more than one vote in each!
The intent was to idenitfy your DOMINANT motivation, not your spectrum. THe latter is boring - sure we all do it for eveything but what really drives you, thats whats interesting.
In my case its even more so because one force drives me and the other does the opposite - undermines my dancing. But it seems I am unique here that way.

I think I am definitely a competitor and performer, but an expressor.

I don't quite understand the 'but'...

I dance because I can't not dance.
So I'll have to go with all three, I think. I know, though, that when I dance in my mind, it is to express.
I
really
like this. It seems to me though, from reading your post, that what you say is in your mind is actually in your heart. In which case, you know the answer. Like me.

Winning is awesome( who doesn't love to win?), but it's not all about that... even if there were no competitions, I would find some way to perform because I love it!
I LOVE performing! There more people to watch the better!

Even though I said all three the most important is the expression. It is letting the music move me. I am the singers voice in action. Every waltz or rumba or what have you should be danced differently according to the music, singer and feeling of that particular song. Of course being the follow it is a little harder to do this in Standard than I can in Latin. To me it is after my competing is done that I will learn to become a real dancer.

I polled for all three (winning, performing, expression), but I would say that my single, **current** driving force for dancesport is knowledge and awareness.
I sound so New-Age or something with my most recent posts, lol

..which sounds like self discovery, and thats always a good thing.
The challenge is to put this into a context that you feel good about....
But I ask: why do you have to do dancesport for 'knowledge and awareness'; while I undertand working on the dance part, I don't see where the sport comes in?

I found myself thinking, "that's why you're here GreenEyes26". Just thought I'd share.
What's more interesting to me is that what I used to consider "New-Age" is actually not.

Which is, of course, why its called that. Totally consistent, in a delighful, bizzarre oxymoronic way...
