Yeah, I had some friends get a not particularly flattering review in one issue.  But then at one of their last comps, author came up and said he retracted every negative comment he had made in that article, as in intervening months they had fixed every issue he poitned to and improved tremendously.  So even a bad review can end up good.

Actually, waiting for new issue as think he might have written that comp up in this one.

Actually, as a parent, I thought about cutting out one of the reviews and showing it to my son as an example of what happens if you put off your written projects until the last minute. It was that bad.

In that particular case, it was not the typos. It was so painfully obvious that the author literally wrote a review pretty much right before they submitted it and did not take any time to work on it at all. It said things like "in the 2nd place was a couple in a red dress - not listed in the program". The only reason I didn't show it to my son is that he tags along to the competitions with me and if we do come face to face with the person, I don't want him to say "Oh, yeah, mom showed me that article you wrote and told me not to write my reports like this ever".

What makes me *really* upset is when people in a professional capacity that is writing-centric can't complete a simple email. "Uh, I don't really know... call me instead"... Uh, I don't have the time to sit on the phone and listen to you talk- that's why I correspond predominantly through email- you get your side, submit it, get the other side back, and you can answer questions and interact at your convenience. Besides that, writing gives you the opportunity to scan back quickly and clarify or correct anything that needs it. Speech doesn't allow that, and you can hear every stutter.

Just answer the damned question "When is the date for your event?" instead of "Just call me and I'll tel lyou all about it". Dammit, I don't want to know all about it, I just want the date. Duh. Count to potato.

I like Josh Jones - one of his articles on confidence was inspiring to read. But Maja Serve writes thoughtfully. In her lead and follow article, the topic is complex, but she writes without stumbling (I'm sure she had many, many drafts) and it's very elegant. It's that kind of smoothness and elegance that I'd like to achieve...especially when transposing the physical knowledge of dance into verbal language. For right now then - those two I admire: Josh and Maja, but maybe Maja a little more.

interestingly you mention maja..in Australia she is not well know, which is a real shame I would love it if she could come here....
