Dancesport Upsets

This topic is to discuss interesting results in the dancesport world and will be 'stickied' to the beginning of the board.

So here's a big one at the Embassy last night:

2     Giampiero Giannico & Anna Mikhed USA     
3     Victor Fung & Anastasia Muravyova USA Supadance Ambassador

No surprises about #1 but I think this is the first time #2 has beaten #3.  What makes it even more interesting is that Anna was, up to quite recently, Victor's partner.  I'm going to raise this elsewhere...  We have to wonder also does this mean that Giampiero Giannico & Anna Mikhed USA are on their way to the very top?

Am just so delighted to see that! So delighted... I've always thought GG had so much more in him, and it looks like he and Anna found the right partnership to take both their dancing even further.

GG on the floor is so powerful... but in the past he's often seemed to me like a lethal weapon that sat on a shelf. I wish I could see him dancing with Anna. I bet he's firing away like made, now.

Wow .... Not surprised that Arunas won, but 2 beating 3...

In manhattan this year, the #2 and #3 were very close. The placement was decided with just one dance. So I've thought this is coming. I liked Anna and Giampiero's dancing over Victor and Anna's. There was something special and very romantic in their dancing.

Interesting results.....look forward to seeing anna and her new partner dancing as she always looked lovely on the floor

just watched a slow fox vid of GG&A yet again -- "breathtaking" is the word i would use -- and it finally dawned on me what i've been seeing but not seeing, what i noticed was different but couldn't put my finger on... anna's right shoulder issue was not apparent in any of the dances i watched and appears to have been fixed!

have always loved her expressiveness and femininity, but that darn shoulder was such an eyesore for me and detracted. but now... my goodness, it's like she's traveling with angels overhead.

she looked so relaxed, light, feminine, connected and deliciously musical. what a joy to see. it's a very different energy than what katusha portrays to my eyes, as gorgeous as kat's dancing is.

i'm nothin' and nobody in the BR world, but my prediction... GG&A may not be far behind a bigger upset than at Embassy. it looks to me like these two are bringing out the very best in each other. who knows... this may go down as one of the best BR partnerships in history.

The crowd let out a collective gasp when the result of Victor in 3rd place was announced.  Victor and Anastasia were understandably shocked and upset, but after a few moments of gaining their composure they were very gracious towards GG & AM.  Anna's right shoulder has definitely been "fixed"!  I noticed that in the first picture I saw of GG & AM.  Arunas danced the best I've ever seen him dance.

I have watched those vids, particularly of that foxtrot, over and over. Let me say that I have never seen what was the big deal with GG; he just wasn't doing it for me. Those videos changed my opinion 180 degrees. I agree w/ you, Sami; GG and Anna may well be one of the partnerships people talk about for decades.
