Hello,
My name is RockDancer and it has been 1 day, 2 hrs and 31 minutes since I last danced. It all started with my sister's seemingly harmless comment "Hey, this ballroom thing looks kind of fun. We should try it."
Initially I was able to keep my ballroom habit under control. I even managed to quit after about 1 year (mainly due to lack of time/money). 6 years later I was still missing it. I got back into it last year when I had more free time. Now I am even more addicted. I love it! It makes me happy
Sometimes I browse through DF when I can't get my regular fix. Found this forum recently by accident and I'm very happy to see that it's full of some lovely characters as well. At the moment I'm doing standard, latin and new vogue and hopping to get into competing. I have dabbled a bit in salsa and would love to do AT. Wish we had American smooth here as it looks like a lot of fun and all the swing dances. Wish I've discovered dancing sooner, there are too many dance styles and not enough time

Very nice to meet you! So you're from Australia! Lots of folks here from Australia!
I'm in the U.S.
I do believe New Vogue is the most ingenious way to pack a floor with hundreds of people and not have any floorcraft issues. I've watched the recorded competitions off of Channel 7 from Melbourne.
Well glad you get to see it...and I am sure you would be good at it!

Hi there RD - we're well grounded with aussies for sure
Which end of the continent are you?
I'm a standard dancer and compete whenever there is a chance - I find competition keeps me working at it.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!
Just to clarify, I'm a girl
even though my user name sounds a bit masculine. But yes, more boys/men would be good in ballroom. And I'm currently in Melbourne

Welcome to PDO
Also, Someguy, that is a spot on description of NV.
Except that floorcraft problems are still common :|

yes NV can still have floorcraft isues. especially due to interpretation of timing and angles. But mostly it does work very welll....and you can get lots on the floor at once..without too major dramas, but overcrowding does put a damper on good dancing.

It is quit amazing how many people you can fit on one floor. Sometimes when I watch New Vogue at a social I can't help but think of one big school of fish, all moving in the same direction

As opposed to when you watch smooth at a social, and it looks like traffic in Rome.
