I have friends and acquaintances that are level 5 standard dancers and are making their way into NV, I was quite surprised that they are struggling with NV.

I have been told that if you are good at ballroom you should be good at NV  what is others experience?

We have a similar comparison between standard and smooth here.  I think it depends a lot on the individual - I could not do smooth to save my life, just a standard kinda girl....

well I have noticed it is about beig able to express yourself and you must beleive in what you do. I know one half of the partnership does not like the style and you can see it in the dancing.

You must own it and love it.

I don't think I would translate at all.  NV is (IMO) similar to American style here (Smooth) and I don't like the flamboyant gestures, for me they leave too little to the imagination.  But thats probably my English background coming out Smiley

It has taken me a while to be flamoyant with my dancing.....the only difference between smooth and NV that I can see is that NV is over a set routine and smooth you make up your own

Thats how I read it too.  How come there isn't a free-style version of NV?

not sure both have their advantages and disadvantages.  I think it would be easier to compare danceif they were doing the same thing, but it has its limitations

Well it (NV) removes the whole floorcraft aspect - and, forgive me, but it does make it a bit mechanical.  OTOH its wonderful to watch a horde of ballroom dancers doing the same thing, like those amazing vieneese waltz balls with all the women in white...
