Yes, but isn't that silly? Social dancers can show off as much as they like, as long as they do it within the social rules. I actully suspect the real reason social dancers resent competition dancers is because they don't want to ge totally shown up

I agree completely with you ee. When we go out social dancing we have to be super cautious whereas many of the social dancers don't worry about showing off or doing what they want, regardless of the people around them. We went to a social dance a couple of months ago here in London where everyone pretty much does various degrees of ballroom dancing but all at a low level. Men where tossing their partners everywhere and doing their routines with little regard for anyone around them. Of course since most of them did this nobody complained. When my DP and I showed up we danced bronze steps in a practice hold doing small casual steps. We carried on doing small bronze steps but when took up a regular hold (no major frame or anything) the DJ, who knew we were competitiors, came and told my DP that we were not to be getting fancy.
