Ahhhhhh, cool!
In that case, perhaps mention that we're interested in starting one?

Here an amateur can't teach anyone, not even without being paid. Its the most short-sighted rule on the book because who else is going to get the new dancers interested than fellow dancers?
It sure isn't because they care about the quality of the instruction but rather the loss to their own pocketbook. If they were that secure in their teaching they wouldn't have to worry about it but instead the past their time instructors that have not kept up with the changes in dancing are trying to make sure they have no more competition against them then possible. Really it shouldn't be their call but rather that of the Amateur Association.

As this topic is several years old, I have a question. Does anyone here think that the prevalence of dance shoes on TV has shifted the public perception of dance, especially the perception of men in dance?

Girls are easy. All we need is a reality show -- Dance Shoe Hoarder or some such.
Boys? Not so much. *sigh*

Cultural change is needed. I'm sure that the governig bodies can help, but how does one sway peoples' opinions?

I found some USA Dance promotion posters a couple days back. I'll see if I can find them again.
