I did go for blue as you see from my picutre...but at the lastest comp there were a few blues but purple was quite popular, not that many can suit purple...trimmed with gold

I don't have a ballroom gown but am considering purchasing one. I was wondering if there were thoughts on sleeves vs none - am undecided. I can see the advantage/disadvantage of both so thought I would ask those in the know/with experience what they prefer? Or is it just a question of aesthetics? I am leaning towards not having sleeves ( helps stay cool ).

Depends first on what your arms are like Older ladies tend to like sleeves - but thats obviously not the only reason! Long gloves can look great too...

They are ok. I like the idea of long gloves, hadn't thought of that. I also figured that if I had floats, they would detract from anything "unseemly" in my arms (or for that matter, could infact become the focus for attracting judges attention )!

on young women, the arm band with the floats attached are good. as EE said, when you are older the toning of the arms. deterioate and it is not a good look. best to cover as much up as possible Younger ladies depending on their figure types have much more choice.

My daughter's new ballroom dress has long sleeves that have diamantes on them. Problem is that the diamantes are sticking to her arms which makes it quite difficult to get the sleeves off her arms. Has anyone else ever encountered this problem? Or does anyone have any ideas on how to overcome the problem?

Is it the glue of the diamantes thats the problem? I would certainly call the dress maker if that is an option....

Yes EE, it's the glue. I've never had or seen this before. The diamantes on the arms are biggish, so probably quite a bit of glue has been used to keep them on.

I would think over time it would get less as the body oils cover the back of the glue. it is very unusual but not uncommon especially as the material on the arms is or can be sheer and very porous.

Right now I'm working on getting a Latin dress made. I would like to get a new Standard one but I will buy a used one to save money.

Good luck finding a tall STD dress. Not easy - seeing as short women buy them for the larger sized and chop off the hems... [should be illegal grrrr...]
