I wasn't meaning to imply there is no negative undercurrent in those words... There is. What I meant was that the suggested alternatives aren't positive counterparts because they don't mean the same thing. Tthey're alternatives completely rather than replacements.
Exactly. Thank you. They are indeed complete alternatives, yet still within the idea of Ballroom ABC's, which was indeed my point.

I wonder if some of it is cultural.... V is dutch and I know for a fact when he speaks some people think is is arrogant when he is being direct. Aslo if you believe in yourself and you have this persona people can misconstrue it also as arrogance.
One thing on the floor but you never go and bag someone off the floor very unprofessional.

i think some people judge "arrogance" out of their own insecurity or inability to seize attention and energy for their own benefit. that would certainly be me, in earlier times...
even the language we use is telling... what could actually be more creative then to be "full of oneself"? and yet we commonly put it down. especially women... seems to me a displacement of personal potential & power, really.
tho i think the guy the OP eventually was describing wasn't a demonstration of this... he was a demonstration of insecurity, violence, immaturity... those good things.

I don't think ballroom dancers in particular are full of themselves, just people in general are up themselves!

Did you hear of the ballroom dancer that ate his own leg?
Yup, he was really full of himself.

LOL Why on earth would he do that? He's a ballroom dancer, ballroom dancers need legs!
Oh I just realized, this is a joke right? (Don't you hate it when you don't get a joke or takes ages before getting it?)

I can never believe they are truly arrogant - they have "learned" how to hide their insecurities....
