That's the translation I have of it...

It's quite possible that there's a more literal translation along the lines of "I don't know that language" or "I don't speak your language" etc etc. Contextually though, "I don't speak Japanese" is correct enough.

Literally you have:

Nihongo (Japanese) wa (particle 'is', which should actually be an wo. particles are confusing) wakarimasen (the verb 'to understand' in negative form)

So pretty much 'I don't understand Japanese'

I don't speak Japanese would be: Nihongo wo hanashimasen. Hanashimas being the verb 'to speak' and the -masen form being the negative.
