Lessons before comps?

I am not as confident in standard as I am in latin so the lessons before the comp helps me to warm-up and get ready for it, plus we don't practice well at the comp.  By doing the lessons before I can then go to the comp and not have to worry about warming up but can just go through things on my own to put me into the mode so to speak.  My DP can focus on what he wants to focus on and I can focus on what I want to focus on.

I think maybe also it is how far you are in your understanding..and if you can incorporate the information quickly or not.
